CITIZENSHIP EDUCATION

In addition to the Americanism Essay and Oratorical Contest, Smithtown American Legion Post 833 provides other programs and services to the community such as a recognition program for teachers who instill a sense on national pride in their students.

American Legion Post 833 assists VFW Post 10870 with their Voice of Democracy and Patriot’s Pen programs for Smithtown. If interested in participating in either of these programs, please contact the Commander of American Legion Post 833.

The Post can also provide a program for Veterans in the Classroom. Members of the Post, all of whom have served their nation in various roles in the military, will visit schools to present programs such as:

  • The meaning of Veterans Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, and similar events.

  • History of the U.S. Flag

  • The Story of the Pledge of Allegiance

The Post will also assist the schools in presenting student awards which are related to achievements related to good citizenship.

For additional information, and to arrange for a Veterans in the Classroom presentation, contact the Commander: American Legion Post 833
